Description

During the 1940s to 1950s, Sichuan scholar Chang Yu had been staying in France for decades. After the Second World War, a hundred pieces of waste were waiting to be developed, and the wave of Abstract art was poised. Among Chinese artists, almost only Chang Yu insists on concrete creation, and his artistic lineage is about to reach a higher milestone, with a series of works that are highly symbolic of Chinese aesthetics appearing. Works from this period are regarded as representative themes of his later years.

This batch is often classified as the Changyu "Red Bottom Blue and White Pot" flower series, which only appeared in the 1940s to 1950s and is extremely precious in quantity. Chang Yu is accustomed to creating more than two oil paintings with similar proportions for the same theme. According to Volume I and Volume II of the Complete Collection of Changyu Oil Paintings, there are only four paintings with a height of more than one meter and the title of chrysanthemum on a red background. Two of them have been permanently collected by the National Museum of History of Taiwan. This auction is one of only two private collections, which is really valuable.
