Description

The combination of Western nude women and Eastern landscapes in "The Naked Woman with Cross Legs" is not unique in Chang Yu's prime works. If viewed together with the "Naked Woman with Curved Legs" mentioned at the beginning of the article, it can be seen that the two works have similar ideas, and even the two nude women lie down in the upper body and have a very similar bending state of their right leg, with the biggest difference being whether their left leg is high or flat and bent.

If "Curved Legged Naked Woman" emphasizes the towering and upright right leg, making it look like the mountains and rivers of the Northern Song Dynasty, then this painting "Cross legged Naked Woman" adds another stroke on top of the same shaped right leg, using the perforation of the overlapping feet to form a unique and insightful charm of Chinese literati in stone appreciation - traditional stone appreciation emphasizes "thin, wrinkled, leaking, and transparent", compared to "Cross legged Naked Woman", It can be found that the nude woman's appearance in this painting perfectly matches the stone appreciation standard - this perforation between the legs brings a perspective effect that "Naked Woman with Curved Legs" does not have, allowing viewers to see the nude woman's chest and face layer by layer, and get a deeper understanding.

This process is exactly the same as the discovery of the Peach Blossom Garden in Tao Qian's "Records of the Peach Blossom Garden" of the Eastern Jin Dynasty: "When the forest reaches its source of water, it becomes a mountain. The mountain has a small mouth, as if there is light, so one abandons the boat and enters from the mouth. At the beginning, it is extremely narrow, only accessible to people; after walking dozens of steps, it suddenly becomes clear. The land is flat and spacious, and the house is like a house." Chang Yu was famous for creating prints of "Tao Qian's Poetry Collection" in his early years; Even in his later years, his creation of "The Naked Woman with Cross Legs" was able to capture the beauty of mountains and rivers with the form of a naked woman. This not only demonstrates the artist's consistent erotic humor, but also highlights his brilliant and imaginative thoughts in his later years.
