Description

A work, a memory, a historical dream. Few works of art can define an era, and Zhang Xiaogang's "Bloodline: A Big Family" is precisely such a type of work. In 1995, three "Big Family" series paintings appeared in the 46th Venice Biennale, causing a great sensation in the global art world. With the implicit, introverted and historical Chinese aesthetics, they refreshed the world's understanding of Chinese contemporary art and became an important turning point in Zhang Xiaogang's art career and the history of Chinese contemporary art.

Bloodline: Family 2 "was one of the three masterpieces exhibited at that time. Created in 1995, this work represents Zhang Xiaogang's most mature personal style system. The strokes are smooth, calm and convergent, and the details are meticulous. It connects personal complex with Collective memory, and depicts the delicate, restrained, and blood thicker kinship relationship of a generation in the context of the big era. It is also an important historical witness of the imprints of the times such as "educated youth" and "One-child policy". In 2013, the global reprint of Lv Peng's monograph "History of Chinese Art in the 20th Century" even selected this work as the cover, demonstrating its epoch-making significance.
