Description

The portrait of a woman sitting in a bun was written in the autumn of 1948, and Picasso had just returned from the Warsaw Peace Conference. His lover Fran ç ois Giro was pregnant with their first child at the time, and the two were in conflict. They were extremely angry because Picasso had not been with them for several weeks. Therefore, Picasso brought back an embroidered coat from Sam Gawain's hometown of Poland in the hope of reconciliation, which was the coat Fransova was wearing in this portrait.

In the early 1950s, Picasso exhibited his personal retrospective to multiple European museums until the Godwin family purchased it through the Belle Gallery in 1956.

As for the auction, the chairman of Sotheby's International Federation of Impressionism and Modern Art Department said: "Picasso's portrait connects two generations of film tycoons, which is poetic and is a beautiful thing."
