Description

Guo Xu, styled Renhong, also known as Qingkuang Daoist, was from Taihe, Jiangxi. Born in the seventh year of the Ming Jingtai era (1456), the year of death is unknown. Proficient in landscapes and characters, with both rough brushstrokes and meticulous techniques. Guo Xu lived in an era where the Zhejiang style of painting was becoming increasingly popular, and his works inevitably exhibited stylistic features such as "madness" and "strangeness". Chenghua (1465-1487) was a skilled painter, and Guo Xu was ordered to enter the capital. Prince Ning Zhu Chenhao attempted to persuade him, but was politely declined; Xiao Jing, a high-ranking attendant among the nobles, wanted to obtain his painting and was lured to serve in the palace by his position as a Jinyi Guard. However, he declined on the pretext of not being bound in his lifetime.
