Description

Lu Yanshao (June 26, 1909 – October 23, 1993) was a modern painter. Also known as Di and with the courtesy name Wanruo, he is from Nanxiang Town, Jiading County, Shanghai. Member of the Chinese Artists Association. In 1926, he was admitted to Wuxi Fine Arts College. In 1927, he was admitted to Wuxi Fine Arts College to study. In the same year, he studied poetry, literature, and calligraphy from Wang Tongyu; The following year, he studied painting under Feng Chaoran and met Wu Hufan, traveling to famous destinations in both the north and south. In 1956, he became a painter at the Shanghai Chinese Academy of Painting. Starting from 1962, he concurrently taught at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. In 1980, he officially taught at the institute and served as the president of Zhejiang Academy of Painting. Skilled in painting landscapes, particularly adept at utilizing brush performance, using different techniques such as pen tip, pen belly, and pen root to depict the different changes in natural mountains and rivers. The lines are sparse and smooth, combining hardness and softness. Yunshui is his unparalleled skill, with a majestic and graceful sense of ups and downs. Gou Yun Gou Shui, the misty waves are vast, the clouds evaporate and mist changes endlessly, and the method of leaving large blocks of white space and ink blocks is created. He also serves as a character and a flower, and his calligraphy is unique.
