Guan Shanyue (1912-2000), from Yangjiang, Guangdong. Famous Chinese painter and educator. Representative figure of Lingnan Painting School. He once studied under the founder of the Lingnan Painting School, Gao Jianfu. In 1948, he was appointed as a professor at Guangzhou Art College. After 1958, he served as a professor and dean of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, president of Guangdong Art School, and dean of Guangdong Academy of Painting. Vice Chairman and Executive Director of China Artists Association, Vice Chairman of Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Vice Chairman of Guangdong Artists Association. Throughout his more than half a century of artistic career, Mr. Guan Shanyue has inherited the artistic philosophy advocated by Gao Jianfu, the founder of the Lingnan School of Painting, which is to "keep up with the times" and "compromise between the East and the West, and integrate the past and present". This has been consistently integrated into his creative practice, life practice, and educational practice.
