Liu Haisu (March 16, 1896 – August 7, 1994), Han ethnicity, named Pan, with the courtesy name Ji Fang and the courtesy name Hai Weng, was born in Wujin, Jiangsu Province. He was a member of the Democratic League and a Chinese painter, oil painter, calligrapher, art educator, art historian, and social activist in modern and contemporary China, His main works include True Interpretation of Painting, Six Methods of Chinese Painting, Essays on European Tour, Shi Tao and Post impressionism, Inheritance and Innovation of Chinese Painting, Cuntian Pavilion on Art, Mount Huangshan Mountain on Art, Selected Works of Liu Haisu's Art, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse, and his translation of Modern Painting; His main oil paintings include Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Snow in Luxembourg, Venice, Colosseum, Sunflowers, and Westminster Sunset; The main Chinese painting works include Cold Forest, Waterfall, Mount Huangshan Ancient Pine, Five Doctors, and Roaring Tiger. Liu Haisu was appointed as the Vice President of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts in 1914; From 1915 to 1952, he served as the principal of Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts; In 1932, he edited and published the "World Famous Paintings Collection". In October 1937, he held the "Liu Haisu European Tour Exhibition" in Shanghai and created the oil painting "Four Rows Warehouse"; From November 1952 to November 1957, served as the principal of East China Art College; In 1957, the "Liu Haisu Traditional Chinese Painting and Oil Painting Exhibition" was held at the Shanghai Art Museum; In 1968, he created traditional Chinese painting works such as "Grape Painting", "Peony Painting", "Vast Rivers and Ten Thousand Miles of Frost", "Pine Stone Painting", etc; In June 1979, the Liu Haisu Painting Exhibition was held at the National Art Museum of China; From June 1979 to March 1983, he served as the Dean of Nanjing Academy of Arts; In September 1988, "Liu Haisu's Ten Paintings on Mount Huangshan Mountain" was held in Shanghai Art Museum; In March 1991, he obtained an honorary Doctor of Literature degree from the University of Hong Kong and was awarded the title of "Expert Enjoying Special Allowances from the State Council".
