Description

Zhang Dai Chien, male, from Neijiang, Sichuan, with ancestral roots in Panyu, Guangdong Province, is a Hakka. He was born on May 10, 1899, in a scholarly family in Anliang Village, Zhongqu District, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. He is a Chinese ink splasher and calligrapher. In the 1950s, Zhang Daqian traveled around the world and gained a huge international reputation. He was praised by the Western art world as the "brush of the East" and also known as the "painter who copied the most famous paintings in the world". He and his second brother Zhang Shanzi Kunzhong founded the "Dafengtang School", which is the most legendary splashing ink painter in the 20th century Chinese painting world. He has made remarkable achievements in landscape painting. After living overseas, he combined his painting style with traditional Chinese painting, combining heavy colors and ink wash, especially splashing ink and splashing color, creating a new artistic style. Due to his poetry, calligraphy, and painting being on par with Qi Baishi and Pu Xinshe, he was also known as "Southern Zhang and Northern Qi" and "Southern Zhang and Northern Pu", with numerous titles like a cow's hair. Along with Huang Junbi and Pu Xinshe, they are known as the "Three Families of Crossing the Sea". Growing a big beard in his twenties has become a unique symbol of Zhang Daqian in the future.
