Description

In the 1950s, it is said that the "Founding Memorial of Yuan Shikai's Statue" was minted at the Suzhou Mint. The earliest mention of the Suzhou Mint making the "Founding Memorial of Yuan Shikai's Statue" silver coin was in the second edition of Geng Aide's "The Currency of China" (1927), page 175. Geng Aide's description of this coin is: Yuan Shikai on the obverse, with two crossed flags on the reverse. The front text reads "Portrait of the President" and the back text reads "Founding Memorial". His conclusion is: "It is said that this coin was minted by the Suzhou Mint and is extremely rare." The layout and inscription on the front and back of the coin are similar to the 1912 Li Yuanhong statue of the founding commemorative coin, but the portrait is different, and there is no flower star separation on the back. It is worth noting that the "Ji" character below the front of the Li Yuanhong statue of the Wuhan Mint is in regular script, while the "Ji" character below the front of the Sun Yat sen statue of the Nanjing Mint is in seal script; The inside of the "round" character on the back of the Li Yuanhong statue commemorative coin is a square mouth, while the inside of the "round" character on the Sun Yat sen statue commemorative coin is a triangular mouth.
