Description

In the fifteenth year of the Guangxu reign, the Jiangsu government minted the "Dragon and Phoenix" one yuan silver coin. At that time, in order to flatter Empress Dowager Cixi, who was "hanging the curtain to listen to politics," the Jiangsu government deliberately tried to mint this edition of silver coin in the fifteenth year of the Guangxu reign (1889). The central circle on the obverse side of the silver coin is decorated with the "Phoenix Roaring Moon" pattern, with the "Jiangsu Official Made · Qing Dynasty · Guangxu Fifteen" cross engraved on it; On the back is the decoration of "Dragon Teng Chasing the Sun", with the word "One Yuan" in the middle symbolizing auspicious dragons and phoenixes, and the beauty of the sun and moon shining brightly. This silver coin was not officially adopted by the Qing government and was not actually issued and circulated. However, it serves as historical evidence for the towering power of Empress Dowager Cixi and has extremely high historical value.
