Description

Zhang Daqian is an all-around painter, whose creations embody the strengths of the masses and the richness of the Northern and Southern sects. He integrates literati painting, writer painting, palace painting, and folk art. In Chinese painting, figures, landscapes, flowers and birds, fish and insects, and animals are all meticulously crafted, capable, and refined. Poetry and prose are sincere and bold, calligraphy is vigorous and elegant, soft on the outside and firm on the inside, and has a unique style. Zhang Daqian has made remarkable achievements in landscape painting. After living overseas, he combined his painting style with traditional Chinese painting, combining heavy colors and ink wash. Especially with splashing ink and splashing color, he created a new artistic style. Due to his poetry, calligraphy, and painting being on par with Qi Baishi and Pu Xinshe, he was also known as "Southern Zhang and Northern Qi" and "Southern Zhang and Northern Pu", with numerous titles like a cow's hair. Along with Huang Junbi and Pu Xinshe, they are known as the "Three Families of Crossing the Sea". Growing a big beard in his twenties has become a unique symbol of Zhang Daqian in the future.
