Description

Chen Shaomei (April 1909 – September 1954). Male, Han ethnicity, named Yunzhang, also known as Shenghu and styled Shaomei, was born into a scholarly family in Hengshan, Hunan. He is a modern painter. From a young age, he studied calligraphy, painting, poetry, and literature with his father, deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture. At the age of 15, he joined the "Chinese Painting Research Association" initiated by Jin Beilou, Chen Shizeng, and others. At the age of 17, he became the backbone of the famous "Hu District Painting Association", and at the age of 22, he presided over the "Hu Society Tianjin Branch", becoming a leader in the Tianjin painting industry. In 1930, his works won the Silver Award in Fine Arts at the Belgium Centenary International Exposition. In the future, he rose to prominence in the art world and became an influential painter in the Beijing Tianjin area. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, he served as the Chairman of the Tianjin Branch of the China Artists Association and the President of Tianjin Art School. The painting exhibited: Resting under the Willow, was created by Mr. Shaomei in 1943 (Kui Weichun).
