Description

"Chuqing" is not only a representative masterpiece of Pan Tianshou's peak creative period, but also the foundational work of his successful creation with a large horizontal scroll. It is also a unique and innovative work with a strong style. Lu Xin, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts and former director of the Pan Tianshou Memorial Hall of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, wrote an article specifically stating that "Chu Qing" is undoubtedly a magnificent masterpiece in the style of a palace, and wherever it is placed, it will be the final masterpiece This masterpiece depicting Mount Tiantai, which emerged after disappearing for 40 years, is bound to attract unprecedented attention. In 1958, the Zhejiang Provincial Government invited Pan Tianshou to customize a large painting for the newly completed Overseas Chinese Hotel. The Overseas Chinese Hotel is a hotel where the provincial government receives important guests, and this giant artwork created by Pan Tianshou will be hung in the lobby. Faced with the nearby West Lake, Pan Tianshou remembered the hundred zhang cliff of Tiantai Mountain that he had recently climbed. The long pine trees, mountain flowers, and flowing water all fell on his pen with his memories. He titled this masterpiece "Early Sunshine" and wrote a poem: One stone and one flower are all extraordinary, how can the rooftop continue to move. It is expected that the water in front of the hundred zhang rock will moisten the hundred zhang pine in front of the rock. "Early Sunshine" is a magnificent piece measuring 3.6 meters in length and 1.4 meters in height. In the spring of the second year after its completion, it was hung in the lobby of the newly completed Overseas Chinese Hotel. This magnificent rooftop masterpiece is opposite to the gentle and beautiful West Lake not far away. Every guest who stays and drinks here is amazed by the unique charm and spirit of Chinese painting in Pan Tianshou's works. Twenty years later, "Chuqing" disappeared from the eyes of the world and was properly preserved. In the following forty years, it did not officially appear again and only briefly exhibited once in a low-key manner.
