In the modern flower and bird painting world, Chen Zhifo is on par with Yu Feiyin, while Chen's works are rare and cherished by collectors. "Floating and Cold Fragrance" is a masterpiece created by the painter in the late 1940s. It depicts a tree full of plum blossoms, with a rigorous composition and a branch shape that inherits the style of famous plum painters from the Song and Yuan dynasties. It vaguely exudes the aura of Tang Shuya and Wang Mian, while the five petals of white plums are evenly round, showcasing a patterned form, becoming more neat and cute, and gentle and quiet. The technique is mainly boneless, outlining the application and dyeing techniques, and using various techniques such as flushing and powder collision, with refined and varied strokes and ink.
