Description

On June 4, 1928, Zhang Zuolin's train was destroyed by explosives pre buried by the Japanese Kwantung Army. Zhang Zuolin was severely injured and died shortly after being sent back to his official residence in Shenyang, at the age of 53< In the early period of the Republic of China, the political situation was extremely chaotic, and warlords took turns in power. During this period, the Tianjin Mint produced or issued various commemorative coins in response to the President's constant changes, and the exquisite craftsmanship was admirable. However, due to the short reigns of the rulers and the extremely short minting time, and the fact that these coins were not originally intended for circulation, the number of minted coins is extremely small and only a few have survived to this day. The commemorative coins of the Zhang Zuolin portrait series are among the major treasures of these portrait coins.
