Description

As is well known, a thousand lotus flowers were painted, and in his early years, he studied at the Eighth National University. In fact, the influence of Shi Tao's flowers on him, especially the light crimson flowers, may be even deeper. He once said, "The flowers, vegetables, and fruits of Qingxiang are particularly meaningful and elegant, without falling into the white sun or the green vine nests... First apply ink and wash, then cage the light crimson, covering the mountains and water." Many of Zhang Daqian's flower paintings, especially his lotus paintings, use Shi Tao's method of first using ink and wash, and then covering the flowers with blue and ocher. Professor Fu Shen pointed out in more detail in his article "Da Qian and Shi Tao": "Da Qian's ink lotus... is actually a combination of the lotus leaves of the Eight Great Lotus and the lotus flowers of Shi Tao. It obtains qi from the Eight Great Lotus and rhymes from Shi Tao, so it can form its own family. Without understanding this secret, only the surface appearance of Da Qian's painting lotus is obtained. It is worth collecting.".
