Description

The difficulty of firing red glaze is relatively high. Due to the influence of the atmosphere inside the kiln, it is extremely rare to produce pure and uniform colors. Therefore, since the successful creation of firing during the Yongle period of the early Ming Dynasty, various dynasties have used this as a standard to measure the level of porcelain production. Under strict regulations, the official kiln of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty had mature firing techniques, and among the red glaze varieties used for display and appreciation, there were many excellent items, such as auction pieces. There is a clear record in the Qing Palace's "Huojideng" about the firing of the red glazed covered bowl in the Yongzheng imperial kiln at that time, According to records: "On the 21st day of the first month of the eleventh year of the Yongzheng reign, eunuch Samuha, the leader of the treasury, was ordered to search for another Yixing bowl according to the style of the Yixing bowl, and to hand it over to the firing and making of magnetic vessels to imitate and send some of the Jiqing Jihong bowls from the Jun kiln official kiln. The importance of the Jun kiln is highly valued.". "On December 23rd, Zheng Tianxi, the family of Nian Xiyao, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, sent eleven glazed magnetic bowls, seven official kiln magnetic bowls, eleven Jiqing magnetic bowls, and seven Jihong magnetic bowls." On October 19th, in the twelfth year of the Yongzheng reign, according to a post from the Yuanmingyuan, the eunuch of Cangzhou issued an edict: "Send in the magnetic bowl, and I am honored. On this day, twenty-four pieces of Jihong, Jiqing, official glaze, and uniform glaze magnetic bowls will be sent, and the treasurer will always keep delivering them to the eunuch of Cangzhou.". It can be seen that this style of covered bowl was deeply loved by Emperor Yongzheng, and was a monochrome glazed work made by the imperial kiln of Jingdezhen to follow the imperial order and shape the purple sand bowl of Yixing kiln. The former Qing Palace of the Palace Museum has works of purple sand, Ji blue, imitation official glaze, and kiln transformation glaze that match those recorded in the Qing archives, which can be compared. The auction vessel has a regular shape and the outer wall is coated with Jihong glaze, which is uniform in color and plump and warm. It is a masterpiece of monochromatic glaze in the imperial kilns of the Yongzheng Dynasty.
